The Broyhill Family Foundation is in beautiful Lenoir, North Carolina, at the foot of the stately Blue Ridge Mountains. Established in 1946 by the founders of Broyhill Furniture Industries, it began with the intent to provide opportunities for students in Caldwell County to go to college. Over the years, the foundation has grown in size and focus, expanding its interests while maintaining relationships with certain education institutions.
Instead of providing scholarships to individuals, the foundation has set up endowments for programs and scholarships at various colleges and universities in North Carolina. It continues to grow these endowments. The foundation also funds youth development programs with which it has a legacy.
Health care research and programs constitute the second largest portion of foundation bequests, increasing established funds and endowments at medical facilities, most of them in North Carolina.
After supporting those major areas of concentration, the foundation accepts grant requests from non-profit, charitable organizations primarily in Caldwell County, North Carolina. It supports a small number of national and state organizations that promote free enterprise education, but new requests in that area are discouraged. Also discouraged are requests from churches and public schools.
Recognizing that needs are great and that worthy causes abound, to make the most impact, the foundation gives priority to bolstering programs already in place. We discourage unsolicited applications. For more information, see the Grant Guidelines and Application on this website.
Broyhill Family Foundation’s grant cycle is January 1 to November 15. Please read the Grant Guidelines carefully before submitting an application. You can then download the Application in PDF form. Please submit all documents by mail or email.
